Advancements in Boring Mill Technology

Fabricating and finishing of solid materials such as metals, wood or plastic to specific shapes and measurements have been made easy with the employment of boring mills. The key purpose of boring machines is to augment the size of an already existing hole. Boring mills are offered in two types – Horizontal and Vertical Boring Mills, which are manufactured in varying sizes and can be utilized for a variety of boring and milling operations. The boring size of components for devices also vary, along with power and other specifications.

In boring machines of the modern times, the work piece is free to move or rotate unlike in a drilling machine. Moreover, the borer can move along the work piece depending on the feed rate. The rotary table, with its 360 degree motion, simplifies the movement of the work piece and helps in completing a particular machine operation in a relatively lesser time. Boring machines are equipped with CNC units programmed for automated functions. All functions can be monitored through the operator platform provided with the machine, and some of the altering operations require manual interference.

Boring machines were introduced mainly to operate easily and quickly on hard-to-bore solid objects. Over many decades, multiple tasks such as boring, milling, drilling and threading operations have gained a new perspective with technological sophistication. The boring machines penetrate through solid objects to either create a hole or increase its size according to the functional requirements. In case of engineering heavy materials, boring machines occupy an important place with their multifunctional ability.

The ancient idea of setting a position prior to running the boring machines resulted in the creation of horizontal and vertical machines. Today, although the technology has advanced through innovative ideas, the research and development by design engineers continues. This is paving ways to producing more advanced digitally automated machines, which remarkably simplify a number of small-scale as well as large machining functions.

Fermat Machinery has specialized in manufacturing Horizontal Boring Machines for several decades. During the last few years, horizontal borers have gained more prominence for their versatility and ease of use. Numerous industries have deployed Fermat horizontal boring mills in their sectors to produce high-end products with exact dimensions and perfect surface finish. Fermat has broadened the industrial applicability of its machines with its profound engineering and mechanical expertise. With the constant adaptation of advancing technologies, Fermat has enhanced the capacity and operational efficiency of horizontal boring machines and widened its functional capabilities to a large extent.
